Remote Education

Remote Education with Mount Hawke Academy

In order to ensure that learning is continued, irrespective of lockdown or self-isolation, Mount Hawke Academy has developed a plan which offers remote learning opportunities whilst also acknowledging that some households have limited access to devices and would require paper copies of work and resources.

This plan complies with the expectations and principles outlined in the Department for Education document 'Guidance for Full Opening of Schools', and has been written taking into account the Education Endowment Fund’s ‘Best evidence on supporting students to learn remotely’ April 2020 and the DfE guidance, 'What's Working Well in Remote Education' Jan 2021.

Our remote learning offer is accessed via Tapestry for children in Reception and Seesaw for the rest of the school.  The designated leader responsible for the quality and monitoring of home learning provision is Catherine Biddick (Head of School).

Our remote learning will mirror provision for those children in school as much as is possible.

Our online learning allows school staff to interact with your child, mark their work, as well as set appropriate next steps and address any misconceptions.

Learning is set by 6pm the night before at the latest, with a suggested timetable for when to complete activities. We appreciate that some of you may need to juggle your own work commitments, as well as several children’s home learning and therefore may choose to complete it at different times. However, there is an expectation for home learning to be completed by Friday at 3.00pm for that week.  If it is completed over the weekend, it may not be acknowledged for a few days.

Similarly, adults within school continue to teach face to face in school through the day, which may mean that they respond to learning at unusual times, and are not usually immediately available. Please bear this in mind should any notifications be active on your devices.

In Addition

  •          Initially we phone all families over the first two weeks of a lockdown closure to check on wellbeing and address any initial concerns.  We then hold Google Meets with classes. These are online meetings where learning is celebrated and are also a time to say hello and see friends from within the classroom and at home
  •          Regular video messages are posted in Seesaw and Tapestry from your child’s class teacher (if they are well).  These may introduce the day's learning, explain a concept,  teach a session, show the teacher modelling a technique, share a story or a message.

Even though your child will be learning from home, this does not mean you are alone.  We are always available if needed.  Please phone us on 01209 890230 or email  hello@mounthawke.org
