Art and Design

'Creativity takes courage' - Henri Matisse

Our Art curriculum at MHA aims to inspire, engage and challenge our pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, create, develop and refine their own works of art.  Our curriculum offers all pupils a broad developmental experience in both two and three dimensional art, together with the opportunities to enjoy, appreciate, discuss and critically respond to a variety of art, craft and design forms.  Our pupils will learn the necessary skills and build up an understanding of the way in which materials and media behave.

In EYFS, Art falls within the 'Expressive Arts and Design' area of learning. Our children are taught different artistic methods and techniques and are provided with open ended resources for them to practise and experiment with during their free time. Children are exposed to artists and their work and use their work as a stimulus for their own masterpieces.

The art curriculum will stimulate and enable all pupils to develop the confidence to explore and enjoy all of what the visual arts and its unique experiences have to offer, and in doing so build on and develop skills which are essential to lifelong learning.

As our children progress, they think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They also develop a knowledge of how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our world.
