'One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way' - Frank Smith
We offer our children success and satisfaction in learning a new language at Key Stage Two, aiming to embed this in our school community so that our children understand the purpose of learning a Modern Foreign Language. As a school, in consultation with our local secondary schools, we have chosen to study French.
We aim to foster our children’s curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Our children are taught to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. We provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries. The learning of a language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils, helping them to develop communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, with an aim of making substantial progress in one language. The children’s knowledge of how language works will be developed to lay the foundations for further language learning in future.
