'Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion' - Michael Jordan
We believe that Physical Education is so important in the development of children’s physical, social and leadership skills, enabling each child to excel across the wider curriculum. We capture children’s interest and enjoyment of PE at an early age, providing outstanding PE lessons, helping to lay the foundations for our children to develop healthy and active lifestyles in the long term.
All children receive a minimum of two hours of curriculum PE per week, taught by both the class teacher and Mr Brandreth (our Sports Coach). Our children are taught from EYFS to develop a foundation of fundamental skills that allow them to become physically literate. As they progress through the school, these fundamentals will be essential to their continued development through a broad range of sports and activities that we offer.
By the end of Year 6, all children will have attended swimming lessons; learnt a range of strokes, safe self-rescue and be able to confidently swim a minimum of 25m. Where possible, physical activity will be present in wider areas of the curriculum to re-enforce the importance of physical health and wellbeing.
Our PE activities are planned to encourage the children to develop a positive attitude towards keeping fit and healthy, providing opportunities for them to participate in team activities and to develop their skills through a range of physical activities. All lessons provide a progressive PE curriculum, scaffolded appropriately to accelerate children’s physical skills and provide challenge to all.
